Ambrose BierceHistory — An account mostly false, of events unimportant, which are brought about by rulers mostly knaves, and soldiers mostly fools.
About This Quote
History is usually written by one side or the other. The story of history is told from the view of the victors, which means that it only tells the events that happen after the battle has occurred. The facts are often distorted to make sure people feel happy about certain decisions, and the truth is rarely revealed. For example, consider Winston Churchill's quote, "History is written by the victors." It may be true, but it doesn't take into account all of the facts. If history were actually written by the victors, then there would be no history.
